In recent years, there has been a growing discussion about work-life balance + the need for more flexible schedules. [A]SQ’s solution is the concept of a flexible 4-day working week, where our employees in the UK + Cyprus work their full-time hours in four days instead of the traditional five. This article explores our rationale for embracing this model + highlights the numerous benefits of implementing a shorter workweek.

/The [A]SQ. Way

At [A]SQ, we strongly believe that the well-being + satisfaction of our employees directly contribute to their productivity + success in the studio. We value a healthy work-life balance + recognise that providing flexibility in working hours promotes employee engagement, job satisfaction, + overall happiness. Realising the concept of a 4-day working benefits our employees first + aims to create a more fulfilled, reactive, + effective workforce, which ultimately benefiting both employees + [A]SQ. alike.

//// Benefits of the [A]SQ. 4-Day working week include:

/01. Work-Life Balance

One of the most noticeable benefits of a 4-day working week is the improved work-life balance it offers. Employees have an extra day off to spend with their families, pursue personal interests, engage in hobbies, or simply relax + recharge. This allows them to come back to work feeling more refreshed + motivated.

/02. Increased Engagement:

Reducing the working week to four days has been linked to higher employee engagement levels. When employees have more time for themselves, they are more satisfied with their work and less likely to experience burnout – a common theme in the world of architecture. This, in turn, contributes to higher employee retention rates, saving the company recruitment and training costs.

/03. Productivity Boost:

Contrary to what some might expect, studies have shown that a 4-day working week does not necessarily result in a decrease in productivity. In fact, many companies that have adopted this model have reported an increase in productivity among their workforce. Employees tend to become more focused, efficient, and motivated, knowing they have limited time to accomplish their tasks.

/04. Environmental Impact:

Implementing a 4-day working week also contributes to a positive environmental impact. With fewer commuting days, there is a reduction in traffic congestion + carbon emissions. This aligns with our company's commitment to reduce our operational carbon emissions + aspiration to be a climate positive company.

////

[A]SQ. are fully committed to + successfully operating the 4-day week model + will continue pioneering this initiative throughout our studios + the architectural industry.

NOTE.

[A]SQ. would like to inform its clients + partners that our offices in both London + Nicosia operate seamlessly throughout the regular 5-day working week without any interruption. Our workforce work within our studios on an extended 4-day rotating cycle meaning there is

always [A]SQ. presence on our projects.
